My next sewing project is a simple blouse, and I am trying to choose the fabric more carefully this time. The pattern is already chosen, but ordering fabric online makes it difficult to judge subtle differences between similar shades. There is enough time to order swatches, and I would rather compare a few properly than buy several unnecessary lengths. The topic I have been looking into while making a shortlist is personal color analysis but I am unsure how closely a first sewing project needs to follow a suggested seasonal palette. Is it more helpful to order similar shades together, or add one contrasting color as a reference point? The samples will only be small squares, so I need to account for the larger area of the finished garment. How do other home sewers balance palette advice, fabric availability, and the practical need to match existing trousers or skirts?
